PrEP'ing U

What Is PrEP?

PrEP involves the regular use of antiretroviral drugs by HIV-negative individuals to prevent HIV acquisition. The most commonly prescribed PrEP medication contains a combination of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine these are more commonly known as Truvada and Descovy. When taken as prescribed, PrEP significantly lowers the risk of contracting HIV from sex or injection drug use.

How Effective Is It?

Effective Prevention: Studies have shown that when taken as prescribed, PrEP can reduce the risk of HIV infection by over 90%.

Empowerment and Control: PrEP empowers individuals by offering a proactive approach to safeguarding their health, enabling them to take charge of their HIV prevention strategy.

Reduced Anxiety: For individuals in exposure situations, PrEP can alleviate anxiety and fear associated with potential exposure to HIV.

*Disclaimer: Only Truvada has been approved for use in the prevention of transmission of HIV through vaginal sex.
