PrEP'ing U

What Is PrEP?

PrEP, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis is an HIV prevention strategy for HIV-negative people. It involves taking Truvada, or Descovy once a day to protect against HIV.

When combined with safer-sex practices, these medications work to prevent HIV from establishing itself inside the body.

How Effective Is It?

Studies have shown that if taken daily, PrEP is 90% effective in fighting HIV when used with condoms. It is very important to take PrEP every day. It doesnt work as well if you skip pills. If you don’t take it every day, there might not be enough medicine in your body to block HIV.

*Disclaimer: Only Truvada has been approved for use in the prevention of transmission of HIV through vaginal sex.
